"Greece, next week? SAYLESS!"
So……. we had this “bright idea” to plan a birthday trip for Shavonti to Greece in less than 1 week. Super wild, I know! By the grace of the travel gods, it was a successful trip! We have joked in the past about going on a trip and staying at a different hotel each night, and due to our last minute planning we had to do just that! Who knew all resorts in Mykonos close for the winter mid October? Clearly not us!! Lol.. Put things into the universe, jokingly or seriously, and they will likely come true.
We were lucky enough to find 4 incredible places to stay while in Greece! We spent two nights in Athens and two nights in Mykonos.
After a perfect Emirates flight, we arrived at an incredible condo in Athens Greece, where we spent our first night in this beautiful country. We are typically not airbnb type of travelers, but we stepped outside our comfort zone on this one and we got super lucky. The condo was perfect!
No birthday is complete without a birthday dinner! So we had Shavonti’s birthday dinner at this dope Mediterranean restaurant in Athens called the GB Roof Garden Restaurant. The restaurant is located at the Hotel Grande Bretagne in the Athens City Center. GB Roof has a great view of Acropolis while you enjoy your dinner. Double Dose of LA highly recommends you have dinner here.
After dinner we went to 360, a cute roof top bar for an even better view of Acropolis. 360 was dead when we went but it was perfect for a chill night cap.
Of course we arrived to Greece without outlet converters, leaving us unable to charge phones or plug in curling irons. So we went on an emergency wild goose chase and we were able to find 2 solid options. By way of Google and a little bit of luck, we took a cab to this random electronic store we found online called Public. On the way to Public, we walked by a street vendor who was selling converters for 4 euros. Since we love a good bargain, we purchased one “shifty looking” converter from the street vendor, and a second converter from Publics for about 30 euros. To our surprise, both converters worked perfectly.
The next day, after about a 40 minute flight, we arrived in Mykonos. We flew Volotea Airlines and the flights were under $50 each way.
Our first night in Mykonos, we stayed at Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort at Ayios Yiannis Beach. This hotel was everything we dreamed of. We wanted to make sure we stayed at the best 5-star hotels Mykonos had to offer and this hotel was exactly that. From the moment we arrived on the property we were treated phenomenally and well taken care of. The hotels grounds were super clean and well maintained. Mykonos Grand was a Dream!
We stayed in the 2-room Grand Suite with Private Pool.
For evening entertainment we went to Mykonos Town for dinner and drinks. Mykonos Town is the Island’s main attraction. These narrow tile paved streets have shopping and cafes by day and clubs and bars by night. Visiting Mykonos Town is a must!
Next we stayed at Myconian Utopia located at Elia Beach, Mykonos. Double Dose of LA would describe Utopia as “earthy-chic”. This boutique 5-star hotel is unlike any other hotel we have ever seen! The property is breathtaking and a vibe like none other.
Although the Myconian Collection Hotels are the best hotels in Mykonos, we found the customer service to be sub-par and disappointing. 70% of the items on the room service menu were unavailable, 2 of the 3 tvs in the suite did not work, the suite had a kitchen without any utensils, and none of the pools on the property are heated. Luckily, our suite had a jacuzzi where we spent the entire night drinking and having girl talk.
The next day we flew back to Athens where we stayed at the Royal Olympic Hotel. We picked this hotel because we wanted to stay at an elegant but traditional greek style hotel that was walking distance to Acropolis. This hotel was Royal AF!
On our final day in Athens we went spent the afternoon at The Acropolis. You can’t come to Athens without coming here. Make sure you wear your walking shoes, it’s a lot of walking. But well worth it! It’s certainly as beautiful as the pictures!
